Into that Dark Night

“Remember man that thou are dust

and to dust thou shalt return.”

Beneath the ground

in caverns deep

seams of coal black

as night, darker than

night without moon or star

light men toil, load

blackness into cars

covered with dust

Beneath the ground

in darkness deep

undisturbed rest

dust to dust;

men sleep.
