Walking to the New Year and the River

It is time

to walk to the river

to welcome the year images small

painstakingly noticed and told

in simple words

in clear thoughts

felt savored

My creek is like that…but I can only walk my yard unless I go to the public area and walk a stretch of it there. Sitting on my stone bench under the willow – even without her leaves and listening to the winter birds…that’s nice too.

    Lovely little poem.

Thanks, Libby. I’m participating in A River of Stones again this year. I will be writing one small stone (poem or prose) each day in January. The idea is mindfulness and focus–paying attention to our surroundings in a detailed, observant way, and writing about those observations.
